The complete soundtrack to "Simon the Sorcerer II: The Lion, the Wizard and the Wardrobe", composed by David R. Punshon.

The music in this game beset by several oddities. The game resources contain both MT-32 and General MIDI sound files. The MT-32 sound files in some places seem like early drafts of the respective General MIDI files. Some songs are completely missing in the MT-32 sound resources such as the music to Runt's first conversation with Sordid, which plays in silence. This suggests that the composer did not have music ready for that scene before switching his efforts to General MIDI compositions. The General MIDI sound files on the other hand use MT-32 drum note key numbers to trigger instruments such as "Quijada". Both versions' MIDI files contain absolutely no panpot information; the game's sound drivers plays them all in the center, but there is some circumstantial evidence from the choice of MIDI channels that the MT-32's power-on default panpot positions are supposed to be heard.

The game uses the MT-32 sound files both when selecting Roland MT-32 *and* General MIDI in the setup program. The latter is obviously a mistake. The General MIDI sound files are used when selecting the OPL2, OPL3, and Gravis Ultrasound output devices in the setup program. The game can be forced to use the General MIDI sound files with the General MIDI setup selection by deleting the (otherwise empty) file "MIDI" from the directory that the setup program creates.

This recording attempts to represent what is thought to be the composer's intent by taking these observations into account. The General MIDI sound files are played through a Roland SC-55 mkII, but with default MT-32 panpot positions, and using the MT-32/CM-32L drum kit. The sequence of songs roughly represents a plausible order of actions to complete the game, although some songs were moved around so that all parts of a multi-part song are played together, retaining their original subsong sequence (e.g. "Castle Gate" playing A-B-C-B-D-B-E).
