Presented by Nicola Timeus (Eurotech) at EclipseCon 2022. Sponsored by Eurotech.

A typical IoT solution usually involves collecting data from field devices like Sensors and PLCs, process it on the Edge and publish it to a remote endpoint such as Cloud Platforms.

This scenario can be naturally modeled in terms of the data flowing between a set of nodes connected to form a graph. Kura Wires implements this approach by providing an open-source framework to create reusable components implementing the different entities that communicate through a simple data model. These components can be deployed on Eclipse Marketplace and installed on a Kura device with a simple drag and drop.

Eurotech promoted the usage of the framework since its inception with Eclipse Kura 3.0.0 and up to the present day, making it its preferred environment for building IoT solutions with ESF, its Kura Based IoT Edge Framework.

Today, the Kura Wires ecosystem provides both commercial and open-source components addressing different IoT needs like field protocol drivers, cloud platform interaction, data storage, scripting, EDGE AI processing and more. If this is not enough, the framework openness makes it is easy to develop custom components.

The talk will provide an overview of the evolution of the framework up the current state, showcasing the key concepts behind it, its openness and extensibility and the existing ecosystem. We will show you how the framework is being used in real-world applications and use cases from the field.
