Skip Mushroom Hill Act 1 (Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sega Genesis) - A Wild Glitch Appears!
967This is a rather complicated speedrun trick that allows you to essentially skip Mushroom Hill Zone Act 1 in Sonic 3 & Knuckles for the Sega Genesis. This glitch involves some very precise timing, but with some practice, I was able to almost consistently perform this trick ten percent of the time!
If you're playing as Sonic in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, you'll encounter Knuckles within the first ten seconds of the level. He sneaks out of a weird cave thing, then presses a conspicuous button to close the door behind him.
Drop down and hit the button to open the door, because we're going to use this door to push Sonic into the ground and zip through the level using a Level Wrap Glitch!
You could open the door and find a giant ring in the hidden cave thingy, but here's what we're going to do instead:
Open the door and stand to the right of the button. Hold LEFT to push up against the button, then tap A to perform a very short hop. Keep holding LEFT and Sonic will land on the button, which will cause the door to close.
Let go of the D-Pad just after pressing the button, and Sonic should drift to the left as the door is closing. Once the door makes contact with Sonic, tap RIGHT on the D-Pad. After the door pushes Sonic partially into the ground, immediately press LEFT and JUMP at the same time.
If you timed it right, Sonic should fall through the ground. Now quickly hold RIGHT on the D-Pad, and Sonic should begin to zip through the level. Hold right until the camera catches up with Sonic, and you will be at the Act 1 Boss!
