Grief, loss, parental trauma
Skippy wraps up the jungle level, after a puzzle room in which the rules of space and physics are violated. Eventually, he gets through it, and his robot pal leads him to a place of obsidian and rain.
The boy comes upon a statue that is very similar to the fox's statue at the beginning of the game. He searches through a maze-like necropolis to find and unlock small statues of himself, only to... well, no spoilers. You'll have to watch it for yourself.
The ending has Skippy in tears, and facing one of his worst fears without any preparation.
