14Skype situation is crazy! RIP SKYPE 2025! After more than 20 years of service, the classic app Skype is being shut down by Microsoft. Microsoft Corporation acquired Skype Communications for $8.5 billion dollars in 2011. In my opinion Microsoft has been a lousy shepherd for Skype - allowing competing apps to gain ground and ultimately neglecting the app, letting die a slow but stubbornly resilient death. Now after after 14 years, they are taking it behind the barn - Of Mice and Men style - shutting it down on May 2025. Microsoft Teams does not currently have all the functionality of Skype and besides - in my experience, anyone who has used Slack can tell you that Microsoft Teams is an inferior communication app to Slack. I do not know anyone who actually likes using Microsoft Teams over Slack or even Google Chats if they had a choice. Heck, we would still use Skype if Microsoft wasn't taking it away from us just to bolster the illusion that Microsoft Teams is good.
