Skyrim 100% Maximized Legendary Playthrough - 250. Blind Cliff Cave
We have one more side quest in our log to take care of before heading back to the College, and it's Urag's Fetch Me That Book! quest. How exactly does he know that there's a copy of this book holed up in a Forsworn-occupied ruin? These are the Forbidden Questions that must be avoided when playing Skyrim.
So we're off to Blind Cliff Cave in the Reach, which is quite an interesting location. The initial cave is very short and mostly consists of a ruined tower. Why would someone build a tower inside of a cave? Forbidden Question, my friend. Despite being short there's a lot of loot to pick up here though.
When we exit out at the top, we actually exit back to Skyrim where we are on the mountain directly above the cave entrance. It's interesting because you can easily access this area and the door to Blind Cliff Bastion by walking over the mountain from Karthwasten, meaning the initial cave is completely skippable and thus oddly technically irrelevant.
In any case, things kick off for real once we enter Blind Cliff Bastion. You meet the hagraven Melka at the beginning, who serves as your guide through the remainder of the tower if you decide to free her. You end up doing the same thing - climbing the tower and killing Petra - regardless, so there's no point in not letting her tag along. She helpfully points out some of the traps and secrets too. The tower is fairly short, and the final fight with Petra starts without any ceremony. It would have been nice to have Melka and Petra exchange some smack talk before going at it, but whatever. Our reward is Melka's unique staff, along with the book we came for, of course.
We exit back out to Skyrim at the top of the tower that serves as the bridge between Blind Cliff Cave and Blind Cliff Bastion. Since we had already started exploring some of the mountain around this area, we decide to go whole hog and explore the whole thing. The exploration we did last time at the giants' camp put the itch into me to do so more. We end up exploring the entire mountainside in the triangle bounded by Blind Cliff Cave, Karthwasten, and the Shrine to Peryite. They conveniently define the southeast side of the mountain, with the shrine located at the pass that leads down to the northwest side. It ends up making for a long video at over 90 minutes, but this is the sort of thing that keeps me enthused for this playthrough.
Despite the length we still finish up with a sort n' sell. Next time we head back to the College where more opportunities await us now that we've completed Under Saarthal.
