Skyrim 100% Maximized Legendary Playthrough - 252. Fellglow Keep
Welcome to what is probably my least favorite location in the game. I'm not really sure what it is, but I really hate Fellglow Keep for some reason. We're here as part of the Hitting the Books quest for the College of Winterhold, and I think maybe part of it is this is where the writing for the College questline really starts to get lazy. We're here to track down a book that may help us learn more about the artifact we uncovered beneath Saarthal - even though at the end of the quest everyone acts like they're already familiar with the book, its contents, and its relevance to the Eye of Magnus, and then the contents of the book make no material difference in what happens next.
Partly it's the dungeon itself. Something about the layout feels weird or off, and I don't particularly enjoy exploring it. Looting is difficult too. Between the enemies being mages and us using spells as well, it's easy for loot to be scattered to kingdom come. To add insult to injury, it's also too long - as evidenced by the over 90 minute runtime for this one, which doesn't even include a sort n' sell at the end. By the end I'm exhausted and just ready for it to be over.
But nobody said this journey would be all sunshine and rainbows, so even the worst dungeons must be done in our quest for 100%. On our way there we're ambushed by both a Dawnguard hit squad and a legendary dragon. Our Potions of Destruction continue to be handy in keeping these battles from being a tedious slog.
We arrive at the Keep and, well, we get through it. I don't have it in me to narrate much about this one. We spend a lot of time at the end on The Caller. First we want to save Orthorn - not because we're a nice guy, but because if we do he'll take up residence in The Frozen Hearth in Winterhold, and I always like little touches like that. Second, of course we want to soul trap her to add her soul to our collection, and we have a failed attempt or two in that regard.
In the end we emerge finally from the Keep well over the 90 minute mark, where we go ahead and cut. We'll head back to Whiterun for a sort n' sell next time.
