Skyrim 100% Maximized Legendary Playthrough - 309. Bound Until Death
Today we get to one of my absolute favorite quests in the entire game, and it's only become more so after the solution I found for this video, but I'm getting ahead of myself.
We return from Volunruud to give Astrid the letter and amulet given to us by Amaund Motierre, and she decides to take on the contract. Our first business is to take the amulet to Delvin Mallory to have it appraised / sold. He informs us that the amulet belongs to a member of the Emperor's Elder Council and eagerly purchases it from us - although I don't know why, because where do you safely offload such a unique item? Whatever, that's his problem.
We return to Astrid and she lays out step one of the plan - we have to assassinate Vittoria Vici at her wedding. Since she's the Emperor's cousin this will force him to finally visit Skyrim so that we can kill him. Now logically we could assassinate him anywhere in the empire, so meta-game considerations are infringing on suspension of disbelief to some extent at this point, but it's minor.
It's here we face a dilemma in carrying out this contract. We have to kill Vittoria at her wedding, and for the bonus (which we always go for) it has to be while she's addressing her guests. It's here where some of our roleplaying rules come into conflict. Rule one is that our kills must be completely unnoticed and unable to be tracked back to us, like a good assassin should operate. Another rule is that we have to soul trap all our victims. But yet another rule related to this overall playthrough is that I want to show as much NPC dialogue as possible, and that means talking to all the guests at the wedding. Sure, we can sneak away and use Invisibility to perform the kill without being seen and incurring a bounty, but I still don't like the idea that people will have seen us there and thus we might be an object of suspicion.
And thus I was left despairing if there was any way to meet all of these objectives simultaneously. How can we appear publicly but yet at the same time kill and soul trap Vittoria without anyone suspecting our involvement? Then it hit me.
We're going to get Asgeir to do it for us.
Now using the frenzy effect to get NPCs to kill other NPCs for you is nothing new, and I'm not claiming to have created this idea for this quest. However, what I did discover through research that I haven't seen elsewhere is that if you reverse-pickpocket both a soul trap weapon and an empty black gem onto an NPC, *they can in fact trap the soul of another NPC they kill*. So we're going to have Asgeir murder and soul trap his own bride in front of all the assembled guests.
Here's what we need for the plan: first off, a soul trap weapon. How about the dagger that appears on Astrid's table marking every major contract location? The magnitude of the enchantment is irrelevant for our purposes, so a simple petty soul gem will do for enchanting it. We do temper it a little, just to guarantee that Vittoria dies in a single hit.
Second is a frenzy poison that we can reverse-pickpocket onto Asgeir. A poison is a superior option here to the Frenzy spell. Using the spell immediately breaks us out of invisibility and risks Asgeir attacking us instead of Vittoria. Asgeir is only level 8, so even the weakest poison will do.
Third we obviously need a black soul gem, and the fourth and final element is a sample of Vampire Dust. The first effect of Vampire Dust is Invisibility, so when you eat a sample it's the same as casting Invisibility. This is much faster than casting the Invisibility spell, and we'll use it to make sure we're invisible again after reverse-pickpocketing Asgeir so he goes straight for Vittoria.
With the plan in place we head to Solitude. We ditch our normal armor for some better attire - this is a wedding after all. How about the party clothes we wore during Diplomatic Immunity? And we'll put on the Aetherial Crown for good measure. One must dress to impress, after all.
We talk to all the guests, then loot all the food laid out. It's then time to put the plan in motion. Slipping away, we cast Invisibility and sneak up to the balcony. When both of them appear we pickpocket Asgeir. We take his weapon and replace it with our dagger, then also give him the poison and soul gem. As soon as we exit, we re-enter our inventory and eat the Vampire Dust. We exit again and, voila, Asgeir turns on Vittoria, kills her, and traps her soul.
Veezara shows up and gets into it with the guard, but because we're invisible no one is hostile to us. We silently rejoin the wedding and are able to get the reactions from the guests. We pickpocket the now-full soul gem from Asgeir, and we also take Vittoria's body for our collection. As for the dagger, we let him keep it as a memento of how he killed his own bride.
I'm so happy with this video I actually created my very first YouTube short from it. I hope you're as pleased with it as I am.
