Hey everyone, Fawkesy here, and welcome to episode 1 of Zaoren's story in Skyrim. Posing as an active assassin for the Dark Brotherhood, Zaoren accepts a contract from the boy, Aventus, to kill Grelod the Kind, the ironically cruel headmistress of Riften's Honorhall Orphanage. A quick carriage ride there negates the grueling journey south, but getting into Riften is not as straightforward as it should be. Eventually, Zaoren makes it to the Orphanage, briefly scouting out the grounds and deciding to wait until nightfall to strike. His murderous plan goes off without a hitch (for the most part), and Zaoren seeks The Ratway--a series of underground tunnels theorized to house the Thieves Guild--to escape from Riften without a trace. The Ratway, however, houses many nefarious entities...

Zaoren makes it out alive and returns to Aventus with the contract completed; the Dark Brotherhood should approach Zaoren soon, angered that their kill was claimed by an outsider. While he waits, Zaoren decides to act on rumors that a group of vampire hunters called the Dawnguard have taken residence in a castle near Riften. Zaoren believes that infiltrating their ranks should simultaneously weaken anti-vampire campaigns and lead him to a clan of vampires stronger than any he has ever met, and Zaoren will need all the power that he can muster to defeat the Dark Brotherhood.
