Slim Plays Dynasty Warriors 2 - Introduction
113Hello everybody, SlimKirby here, and welcome to my new Let's Play. It's been a long time coming with literally no idea on how to get this series started, but I think I'm ready to finally jump into the Dynasty Warriors series. It's probably one of my alltime favorite series, so it only made sense to cover this series eventually.
This series focuses on the era of The Three Kingdoms in ancient China during the warring states/dynasty period, where three empires struggled to gain power as they fought and tried to outsmart each other. Although none of the Three Kingdoms were actually capable of coming out on top (you could make the argument for one, but not really, due to technicality), this series takes some liberties with that as it allows you, the player, to take control of one famous warrior from each kingdom and battle your way to the top, as you go through historic battles and legends from the past.
I explain why I am starting with Dynasty Warriors 2 in the video, but basically, the first game is a much different game and super freaking rare and hard to find. At some point if I can get my hands on it, I will show it off, but until then, let's just start from here. Dynasty Warriors 2 is probably my least favorite of the numbered installments, but it's only because the future games make so many improvements to the gameplay. This game is very bare bones, very stiff in control, and doesn't feature a lot of variety. Would I recommend this game as a starting point for people interested in the series? Definitely not, but I think it's worth taking a look at.
For this playthrough, I will be playing through all 3 story modes once, as each story mode has a variety of playable characters, that all have the same 5 stages, and each character doesn't really control that much differently from another. So I figured one playthrough for each kingdom will suffice, and then I'll show off some of the "Free Mode" only battles afterwards (which are basically story mode battles from the opposite side, that don't get represented in Musou Mode). Afterwards, that will pretty much be all she wrote for this LP.
So I hope you guys enjoy this game and for the future, enjoy this series, because I've gotten so many hours of enjoyment from this series. It's ridiculous how much time I've put into these games....
This is just the introduction video, there will be a second video uploaded today that will showcase the first battle. I didn't want to combine the two videos into one because it would have been a 45+ minute video, and I know not many people have that time to dedicate all at once.
