At PAX East 2025, we met Jack, the solo developer behind Gigasword from Studio Hybrid. This action puzzle Metroidvania leans heavily into Zelda-inspired puzzles with a unique mechanic: you carry a giant sword that slows you down, but you can plant it in the ground to jump higher and solve environmental puzzles.

The game takes its time. It’s not a fast-paced Metroidvania like Metroid Dread. Instead, Gigasword encourages players to slow down, explore, and really observe the world around them. Each area introduces new ways to use the sword to interact with the environment, uncover secrets, and solve brain-bending puzzles.

Jack’s been working on the game solo since 2019, and seeing it live at PAX has been a surreal moment for him. He’s excited to share this carefully crafted experience with players who enjoy exploration, discovery, and thoughtful challenge.

A demo is available now on Steam, and the full game is planned to release later this year. Keep an eye on @AkuparaGames for updates as Gigasword approaches launch.
