It really seems like Mass Effect 2 overall has a lot more dark themes and stuff going on than in the original title, as much as I hate keep making the comparison it's again, a lot like how Dragon Age 2 was a more social issues based story than Dragon Age: Origins which was a more Tolkien like experience. Sure, Origins had the whole elf thing going on but at the same time, it grossed over a lot of deeper issues in favor of this grandiose adventure. ME2 yes, has a big adventure going on but the new fuel mechanic and what I will suspect is a lot of returning to Omega gives you a more face-to-face type experience with the people you're trying to save. I'm quickly becoming really aquainted with the social structure of Omega much more so than I did with any of the locations in ME1 which was a very planet hopping experience by comparison. Go to the planet, fix whatever's wrong, leave for a different star cluster entirely.
