This gameplay is one of my first times using Janus in SMITE, this was done in a Siege Mode MOTD called When One Door Closes where it's 5v5 Siege all players must use Janus. The description was WRONG it was not 4v4 but that's what it said when I queued up hence my surprise at it having 5v5. 5v5 is more fun/unpredictable.

This patch certainly has been controversial. What can I say about Janus? Definitely fun and unique, well designed for sure. Let's do a run down.

Passages: Passive, Any time Janus transitions through a portal or over a threshold he becomes aged and wizened, gaining 25% additional magical scaling on his next ability cast.

Very good passive and pretty easy to use especially when combo'd with his ultimate to get into a team-fight and do 25% more.

Portal: Janus creates a portal in the world. If placed on a wall, the portal will create a passage up to 100 ft through to the other side of the wall that Janus or any Ally may use. The portal lasts 5s and may be entered from either side, but closes after 1 use.
If placed on the ground, enemies and Janus will fall into the portal, being teleported into the air above it. Enemies take 80/130/180/230/280 (+60% of your magical power) damage upon landing, and are considered banished for 1.5s during the fall.

Really versatile skill, the damage is just a bonus, just be careful where you place it as it could backfire. You can even banish yourself if you need to, which I did at one point in the video saving my life. Not wise to use on creep waves either.

His second skill...

Unstable Vortex: Janus creates two unstable portals, far too small to fit into, and flings them forward dealing 90/150/210/270/330 (+80% of your magical power) damage to enemies in their path. Enemies hit by both portals take 50% damage on the second hit.

His big damage dealer, this can be brutal but it's not too hard to avoid at times...But say a Janus banishes you and then unleashes this, it'll be harder to dodge.

Threshold: Passive: Janus increases the movement speed of himself and allies each time they go through a portal or over a Threshold by 10/15/20/25/30% for 5s (max 2 stacks).

Active: Janus opens a multi-dimensional rift that lasts 3/4/5/6/7s. Enemies who pass over the rift are slowed by 20/25/30/35/40% and marked with Phase for 3s. Targets in Phase take 20/30/40/50/60% additional magical scaling damage when hit by Janus' damaging abilities.

Pretty useful at times but gets better late-game.

His main selling point is his ultimate!

Through Space and Time: Janus blasts a ball of multi-dimensional energy across the battlefield, burning a portal into every surface it encounters within range 500. These portals last 10s, may be used by allies, and do not vanish after the first use.
Enemy gods hit by the energy take 200/300/400/500/600 (+50% of your magical power) damage, increasing in magical scaling the further the energy travels up to 200% scaling at range 800.

It's mostly for the utility of it, you will see a few times on this video me using the laser to escape or setup. It's wind-up time is killer so be careful when using it as you'll be vulnerable for a while if not safe. I did make mistakes with it at times but I did land a few good ones. It's one of the hardest parts about Janus.

Do note that while it can take you far it won't clear creep waves and it can't hurt the Titan or Siege Monster/Gold Fury, etc. But eh, being able to create portals your allies can use like that is amazing! I kind of forsee this skill getting toned down in the future though...

Also notice, yeah this wasn't Arena Mode for a change. That is since you will get flamed for even picking him in there and sometimes griefed for doing it like somehow it's a sin to try a new God in Arena Mode, the most casual of modes where Conquest Players go to feed and say "it's just Arena" as an excuse.. :P While it's true his ultimate sucks there I'd say Hi-Rez lets you play Janus there and you can do it, it's just harder for him with his ult having no utility there for mass transportation.

Eh try him where you want, I'm just warning anyone. These Matches Of The Day are great however, praise Hi-Rez for making them! The current one is 3v3 Joust with Janus so try him out that way, there's no grief, hate or bickering when everyone is Janus. :P He is very fun and brings a real unique mechanic to the game. He is however VERY hard and has a high skill cap with his abilities being hard to land compared to most mages. I imagine when playing with your friends in voice chat though he'll be AMAZING so you can plan out your ultimate for some game changing maneuvers in Conquest/Siege/Joust.

This game itself? I did ok as Janus, this was only my second real game with him. Had a rough start but once I figured out how they played it got easier to deal with them and hit them. My build....Poly is pretty good on him but the rest I am not sure of. Void Stone probably not in actual games since he is always going to be squishy.
