SNES Mario Circuit 2 - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Custom Track
226Now that I've gotten used to the custom track making process I decided to try to do a typical Mario Kart Tour retro track model port, but use the skills I've built up to make it look more in-line with the base game.

The two main reactions I saw when SNES Mario Circuit 3 was announced for the DLC were of course that it looked very different from the Mario Kart 8 style and that 3 isn't considered the best of the classic Mario Circuits, with most people preferring SNES Mario Circuit 2, so that's why I chose this track in particular to port.
Most of this track is a hodgepodge of models from several Mario Circuit tracks, with the surrounding terrain being taken from SNES Battle Course 1. The environment of that battle course matched that of the Mario Circuits in the original SNES game, so technically what I used here is Mario Kart 8's rendition of that same environment, even if it looks suspiciously similar to that of Donut Plains 3.
I was forced to replace the Mario Kart 7 bouncy yellow block shortcut at the end with a perhaps more subtle rooftop trick ramp shortcut since, as far as I can tell, there is no way of properly replicating the bouncy properties of that shortcut in Mario Kart 8. Apart from that the track is virtually identical to the Mario Kart 7 / Tour version gameplay-wise.
In terms of visuals I'm not entirely happy, there are a few weird artefacts in the road mesh at some of the turns and the shadow maps for the greenery doesn't look as good as it does in the base game, but in general I think the track looks alright, and I hope you enjoy it!
