Fort Ranchos is a custom scenario made with Rimworld's scenario editor. This scenario is based off the the stock Crashland scenario, starting with the standard three pawns. However, from the beginning our pawns will be restricted in several ways. They are unable to construct improvised turrets and traps, which means all of their battles will be fought with standard weaponry. Their research rate has been reduced to 20% of normal speed, so all research will require 5x the standard time to accomplish.
Late in the game, Fort Ranchos will face the extreme difficulty threats Cassandra will throw their way, with additional challenges thrown in. Starting again around day 250, a raid will spawn every thirteen days. Every seventeen days, an alien ship will crashland. And every nineteen days, an infestation will spawn. This has been an ongoing experiment for Fort Ranchos, with more frequent numbers earlier on that were dialed back and then stopped earlier in the series. Now that things have calmed down for the colony they have been reinstated.

You may be thinking, “Why is this place called Fort Ranchos? Don't you mean Fort Rancho, or basically Fort Ranch?” Well, if you're thinking that then you probably should just ask instead of keeping your thoughts to yourself. Haven't I already made it clear I want you to comment on these videos?
But getting to the answer to your question, “Ranchos” in this case does not refer to the Spanish word for ranch. Instead, it refers to the “fresh” and “approachable” rebranded name for a tarantula. Living in the harsh desert, our pawns see many of these hairy eight-legged creatures and rather than run in fear from these giant spiders they have decided to take a friendlier approach to their arachnid neighbors. The efforts of rebranding Ranchos was done by the McElroy brothers in the first episode of their hilarious SeeSo series “My Brother My Brother and Me.” As usual for the products I link to in these descriptions, I have nothing to do with MBMBaM, SeeSo, or really anything.
