1Listen, I understand there's probably a cultural element I am ignoring here, but you can at least have ANON call this out while he was visiting, or anyone else while he was at school. In the long run it's meaningless, but it was given a lot of (relative) weight in the narrative, as a sort of red herring chekov's gun.
PS: The above is generally considered poor writing (unless you're good at it) if people ask 'okay what was the point of that then'. Again, just having Anon comment the parents noticing it would've been enough to verify it was, in fact, just a cultural detail that needed addressing. Seriously. One line. Just so the ignorant can know.
