So this is what It's like to play Super Mario Odyssey (2017 - Switch)
We are taking a trip to the year of 2017 when Super Mario Odyssey was released. This video was created for journalistic purposes.
Now that I finally got my hands on a Nintendo Switch, I tried to think about which game would make the most sense to play first. After some thinking, I decided that the best place to start is one of the earliest titles in the consoles lifespan. That is, of course, Super Mario Odyssey.
I did see some speedrunning footage (though I tried to avoid spoilers) from @Smallant and I know he's a great YouTuber who knows his stuff, so I gave this game a shot thinking it has to be a great game if he's devoting so much time to it. I know, I'm not really a speedrunner like him, so I'm not anywhere as fast as him, but I do have the fact that I am actually playing this the first time, so what I'm seeing is a relatively novel experience at the very least.
I will say that I wasn't sure how well the game would play given some of the footage I saw. Yet, when I actually did start playing this one, it really felt like a much more comfortable experience than I was expecting. At least in the initial first few hours (which was after this video was shot), it didn't feel all that uncomfortable or awkward to play even if I wasn't mastering all the moves yet. At any rate, the beginning hours were quite fun which is a great sign for this one.
With that said, I wanted to hear from you. What did you think of this game? Was this a great game that was highly enjoyable or was this game a bit too different for you?
For those who have played other Mario games, but not this one in particular, what did you think of what you saw? Does this look like an interesting game to play or does it deviate too much from other Mario games you've already played?
Also, for those who haven't played any Mario games, does this look like a game you'd be interested in playing or does it look too cartoony for your taste? Let us know in the comments below!
