A random soku player pinged me in IRC and asked for to play soku with him. My reply something something along the lines of "no". He didn't give up, so I questioned him and found out he's an NA player. Why in god's name would we play soku with this distance, is the netcode not bad enough already?

I said that if he really wants to play with me, we can play IaMP. He actually agreed, even despite having never played IaMP before. Okay. I suggested to start with a character like Marisa or Suika, but he insisted on Patchu. Okay.

I walked him through practice mode, explained all of the game mechanics, told him his global inputs, his character-specific moves, linked him to the IaMP wiki, gave him a combo from 5B, told him a basic mixup to do as a blockstring (i.e. patchu's jB until they respect you), told him what tools are good for neutral game and in which distances (I'm no expert on linking them, but I could at least tell him what moves would be good and what moves to avoid using aimlessly based on my small experience against other patchus), and then we went and played.

We played 24 matches. Between every one or two matches, we stopped to chat and I gave him some advice. Usually it was along the lines of "stop doing 5B 5C, use 6B after 5B instead", and "stop airteching".

This video is a recording of the 23rd match.

On the 24th match I set a rule for myself: not allowed to use the B button.

In defense, this was played on 7 delay. Sometimes inputs didn't come out. Maybe the one time he airteched and I failed to pin him in the corner for it made him think the other 30 times it made him lose half of his life were just flukes.
