Around 100 soldiers from 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards in Sennelager have deployed as part of the reserve force for the London Olympics.

Soldiers from 20th Armoured Brigade in Germany are making up around 10 per cent of the total 17,000 British troops deploying for the games.

The Welsh Cavalry troops only found out they were definitely deploying little over a week ago but in true Army fashion they have been quick to pack up and get ready to go.

Training and operational commitments to Op Herrick 15 make this the third summer these soldiers have been apart from their families. Now plans are underway to ensure they get their summer leave after they return in mid August.
