Olympic security storm intensifies 16.07.12
As athletes from around the world begin arriving in London for the Olympic Games, the Defence Secretary has refused to rule out using even more service personnel for security.
Philip Hammond says if they were asked to find more people they will, after adding 3500 members of the forces to the security operation last week.
Meanwhile, Home Secretary Teresa May has fielded questions in the Commons about why contractors G4S were not up to the job, meaning forces personnel are having to take on security duties at the main Olympic venues.
The Chief of the Defence Staff, General Sir David Richards has told British Forces News he believes the thousands of service personnel drafted in to support the Olympics will more than make up for the shortcomings of the private security firm G4S.
G4S could lose millions of pounds after agreeing to compensate the MOD over the issue.
General Richards said he had sought guarantees at the 'highest level' that the extra personnel brought in would be properly accommodated and those who have had to change their post operational leave, will be fully recompensed.
