0Sole Saga is an awesome new survival roguelike in development! At first glance, it looked like some unholy combination of one of those idle phone games and a bullet hell shooter. I'm happy to report I was mistaken. Sole Saga is actually more of a rogue-lite defense game where you are the bullet hell. The gameplay starts off pretty simple: you select one of the characters (each of whom has their own default weapon) and the stage you want to play. The goal is to help the character survive a set amount of time (usually 30 minutes) by moving them around while they automatically attack waves of incoming enemies. Most enemies you kill will drop experience gems. Collecting the gems fills your experience gauge, and at every level up, you get to pick one of the 3-4 random weapons and items. Each weapon has a different attack mode, and most can be combined with specific items to create even more powerful versions. Collecting and upgrading weapons and items like this is the key to a successful run. Your character can wield up to 6 weapons, letting you combine attacks with different ranges and firing modes. This is especially important in the final few minutes of a run, when an endless wave of tough enemies is almost guaranteed to overwhelm an unprepared player. As you play the game, you'll unlock more and more characters, weapons, and items. Beyond that, you can also unlock powerful relics that let you tweak the game experience, permanent upgrades that apply to every run, and tarot cards that add special effects to your character and the stage you're playing in. Each of these adds a layer of complexity and strategy to what at first looks like a game where you simply have to move the character out of harm's way. Once you have some experience and a few unlockables under your belt, the game practically explodes with all the interesting combinations of characters, weapons, items, and add-ons you can play with. All in all, despite the deceptively simplistic look, Sole Saga is a ton of fun. Hope you enjoy my video.
