I need a tool for brightening a video on Linux.

Anyway, this shows how to go between the basic forms of Cat's Cradle with only one person. You won't find this in any book, because those are all for two people and I came up with it myself 16 years ago.

Apparently I've forgotten the names of the forms, so you should probably find an illustrated Cats Cradle book if you want to learn to actually play. Or just experiment, since most of the fun in playing is trying different things at each stage.

Generally, each stage will have X's and single strings. You grab the X's between thumb and forefinger, then put them between the single strings and pull out. Sometimes you carry the X's over, sometimes under. The other main choice is to grab the single strings with little fingers, sometimes crossing them, then put your thumb and forefinger between the X's and pull out.

Usually you won't get a knot by accident, so feel free to try whatever comes to mind.

In general, both hands do the same thing at the same time.
