A quick SMW challenge from Gameboygenius:
At the beginning of Yoshi's Island 2, destroy the eight koopas on the ledge along with the empty koopa shell in one spin jump combo. No power ups are allowed. Grabbing and moving the empty shell (such as onto the ledge with the eight koopas) is allowed.

This one seemed interesting and tricky to make work. I did a few practice runs and found a method that did work, but I was only occasionally successful with it. However, on this real attempt, I got fortunate and pulled it off within 15 seconds. 2-life combo!

So, the challenge was done, but the video would've been very short if I stopped there, so I decided to play around in Yoshi's Island 3 next and see what silly effects I could get from crashing the game with a glitch involving Yoshi (with the help of savestates), as mentioned in nathanisbored's recent "Let's Glitch Super Mario World" video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8R7XFzB-zds

Apparently, if you block clone to do the double Yoshi glitch (which causes one to become invisible), then mount both of them, eat up a koopa, then ditch the visible Yoshi into a pit while his mouth is full, the other Yoshi's mouth will also be full when he becomes visible. But, at this point, his mouth contains nothing, and you'll usually get nothing if you spit it out.

However, for some strange reason, spitting out this "nothing" while you're riding one of those rotating brown platforms can do all sorts of crazy things based on the X position that Yoshi would spit out the "nothing" (and the sprite slot that Yoshi's in as well, but I didn't bother trying to mess with that detail here). Usually, the game will crash, but the way it crashes can vary wildly, with all sorts of wacky effects! And sometimes the emulator can crash too!

After showing off a variety of crashes for several minutes, I wanted to end the video on one that crashed the emulator, but I just wasn't getting that to happen on that run for some reason. So, I used WMM to edit in a different run for the last couple minutes of the video, where I did eventually crash the emulator.

CAUTION: It may be a good idea to lower your volume slightly after I get Yoshi in YI3. Also, epileptics may want to exercise caution with watching any more of the video after that point.

Note: No annotations here because I don't feel like adding them, and I don't think they're really necessary anyway.

Another note: This was recorded with HyperCam 2 because I figured I'd finish the challenge quickly and want to play around with this potential emulator-crashing glitch! (Also, this lets you easily see my savestate usage.)

A third note: This doesn't necessarily mean that I'm getting back into regular challenges for realsies, just so you know.

Feel free to comment, but just know that I dislike profanity. Any comments containing F-bombs and/or S-bombs will crash horrifically! (In other words, they'll be deleted.)
(Comments containing other types of inappropriate content may meet this fate as well.)
