That's right, someone is trying to sabotage my YouTube channel!
So there I was, enjoying a nice evening with the girlfriend when I decided to check my most recent video stats in YouTube Studio.
I noticed that my free to play Aspen Dungeon Death 1 video was my best video in the first eight hours with a whopping 792 views (much higher than my typical 170 to 250).
I thought this was awesome. I thought that the community and YouTube finally recognized me where I belonged as the best Idle Heroes YouTube creator.
Went about enjoying the rest of my evening, came back an hour later, and noticed that this video was up to 1086 views!
So 71.1 percent of the traffic is coming from external sources, which is rare for me.
I thought maybe the official community shared my post, maybe my Facebook post finally popped off, maybe Barry was telling people to watch my videos. I had no idea.
Check the official discord, check the official Facebook check the official Twitter, and I even checked the Idle Heroes tag on Instagram...nothing.
I take a little break, come back to the analytics, and I'm up to 1300 views. Which, as you can see, is much higher than that gray bar which is where my typical views are.
Come back a bit later, check my stats and I noticed that the external views are up to 908 as of 8:14 pm which is crazy.
So I go to check out the new YouTube Studio 24 hour analytics. If you see that video all the way in the top right corner, this is my free to play Aspen Dungeon Death 1 clear outperforming all of my videos in the last month by double.
As you can see, most of these views are coming from sketchy sounding Russian websites that I've never heard of.
These and they all account for 2-4 views and there's about 200 different of them.
Now this is the weirdest part of the whole thing.
Obviously someone used my video on some sketchy website, posted there, or asked people to watch the video and got me about 900 shady views.
I don't know if this is a another creator in the Idle Heroes community trying to bring down the competition, I don't know it's a player who doesn't like my advice, and I don't know if it's a random internet troll who picked me at random.
So like I said someone is trying to sabotage my YouTube channel.
Why? Because these views will mean that the video makes no money (there goes my $1-2 dollars per video)!
And it could even take the channel down if I get too many fake views, so it is a legitimate concern and something that I do have to be aware of as a small creator.
Other than that, get the word out to the community and maybe even try to get bigger creators (Idle Heroes or other games) to give me a shout-out and get more people over to the channel.
