12One of the standout games of SAGE, and it's not even a Sonic fangame!
Sondro Gomez: A Wonderworld Story is a prequel to Kyle and Lucy: Wonderworld, which is a Sonic styled fangame that was at last year's SAGE. Whereas that had a lovely Sonic-y artstyle with gameplay inspired by the blue hog's escapades, this takes a complete pivot to... NES Castlevania! The NES aesthetic here has been painstakingly constructed, with an actual programmed palette system, appropriate tileset limitations, and sticking entirely to the NES palette.
And the gameplay is good ol' NES Castlevania... but a lot smoother. The control here is very fluid, and instead of sub-weapons you get abilities that give you even greater control, such as a double jump and hover, or a wall jump!
All in all, it's a really, really good demo, and I can't wait to see what else comes of it! It's really satisfying to play, and these levels are deceptively deep - there's a lot of secret stuff I didn't show here!
