Tenshi No Uta (Song of The Angel) is a Jarpg themed on love, life, and family. This game is the first one in a series of three. It was released in 1994, and Developed and Published by Telenet Japan.

STORY: 16/20
"Tenshi No Uta is a love story at its core. A young man named Rayard meets a traveling circus performer and songstress named Callana. They fall in love early, but part ways due to Callana’s traveling lifestyle. After many days of misery, Rayard pulls himself together and sets out to tell Callana how he really feels." -Romhacking

GRAPHICS: 10/20
Honestly, the graphics ain't that great to look at but the character art and cutscene arts are really nice. Monsters look okay in battle and the main bosses look really great. The world map that you walk about on looks okay, but it's very basic graphics for the time. The character model designs are a extremely basic, I don't care for them that much truth be told.

The battle backgrounds are well, some nice, then others a clash of coloured mess. Character magics look okay, some much better than others, the spells kind of remind me a bit of the magic spells you use in the game.. 7th Saga.

SOUND: 18/20
I LOVE this game's music, it really does a fantastic job in this department, every track is set perfectly in its area it is used in. Each track has a really chilled, relaxed tone to it, whilst the battle music is upbeat. The game has a few sound effect to accompany the usual things such as magic, doors, wind blowing, animals, attacking, etc. but the OST is where the magic lays here.

GAMEPLAY/SYSTEMS: 20/20
So, everything said above aside.. the gameplay is actually pretty solid for such an old Jrpg. The game has 8-way directional movement, a number of different choices to use in battles, including 4 different types of magics, there's also a unique Parley system where you can do multiple things with monsters such as, buy items from them, befriend them, negotiate with them, gain gold, gain special items, etc. Navigating the menu is pretty simple and easy to understand.

There's also a friendship system where after battle you will gain +1 friendship point, these are distributed out to your party members but am unsure exactly what purpose it has on them. The game also has a day/night system, also certain shops will upgrade wares sometimes. As you progress through the game you have multiple ways to travel.. by foot, by boat, and even by air on some Ancient Ark by the time you are nearing the end of the game.

TRANSLATION: 20/20
Well, this is also where the game shines most, this translation is fantastic. I didn't notice any text problems, graphical issues, or anything like that and the story is pretty well written by these guys. If there's only one issue I found, it is that this patch has issues with running on certain emulators, I had to visit and ask on a forum board exactly which emulator this runs on, that aside.. it's pretty perfect.

OVER ALL: 84/100
This is a pretty solid Jrpg for the system, even IF the graphics look dated, the story and journey you take is brilliant, not to mention the amazing OST. Do I recommend it? YES! it certainly IS one of those rare gems in my opinion for what it presents to you as a whole package. Get and play it now!
