The first Sonic Advance was a hit with gamers around the world. After selling 1.21 million copies, (an even more impressive number for a handheld system), it even trumped some Mario games on Game Boy Advance and it proved that 2D Sonic gameplay was still strong and relevant amongst fans. What the game achieved most was keeping the classic Sonic formula as closely as it could, and it didn't take any huge risks. However, Sonic Team and Dimps saw the franchises potential and went all out for it's sequel: the beloved and sometimes divisive Sonic Advance 2.
In Sonic Advance 2, the character is simply able to run significantly faster with increased acceleration while a new Boost Mode is in effect. The more Rings the player has obtained and the faster the character is traveling, the quicker the character can enter the mode. Acts are a lot longer but can be exhilarating with this new mechanic mastered and pushes the limits of how fast Sonic can get in a 2D plane!
The graphics, sound and music are even higher of a standard with the game looking as good as it sounds. It all adds to the quality of the game and this feels like a Sonic game given a lot of love by the developers. This is my personal favorite of the trilogy with Sonic Advance 3 being a close second.
This is my playthough with all Chaos Emeralds, No Deaths and beating the game (including the Super Sonic Extra Zone).
