Sonic Adventure 2 Battle Game Sample - GameCube
Original Air Date: January 19th, 2010
Yay, more Sonic. Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (being a relatively minor update to the original Dreamcast game) is a good game with its fair share of problems, but belongs in most GC collections if you like action/platformer games and Sonic. For those hardcore 2D Sonic fans who are against 3D Sonic, you need not apply, as I don't think this game is "THAT" good where it will change your mind, but it's easily one of the best 3D Sonic games. It is largely superior to the first SA (though SA had some pretty memorable moments) and has added fun due to the added Battle Mode and GBA Chao additions in the GC game.
The game has an expanded story and features a Hero and Dark story, where you play the game from both the good and bad perspective. The game doesn't have the same exploration/adventure elements that the original had, but it doesn't matter much anyway. The visuals have been improved (somewhat) and the gameplay has been expanded as well. The soundtrack is hit and miss. Some tunes are great, while other tunes are great depending on what you're into. I personally like the vast majority of the music, but can't help but feel some tunes are out of place even if they sound cool (Knuckles' themes come to mind).
The game fixes some of the glitches, camera, and control problems of the original SA, but they are certainly not gone in their entirety. Doing some actions can still prove frustrating like the Light-Speed Dash for example, especially in a pinch or during "speedruns". However, few of these issues happen regularly enough to impact casual gameplay.
This video goes through Sonic's first portion and end's before Knuckles gets to play. Enjoy.
