One of the most well known Easter eggs is the secret angel statue, found right near the beginning of Wacky Workbench Zone 1. It's commonly speculated to be a leftover from the cut R2.

In the past, the angel statue is found in a room of marble bricks and stone pillars, and showers you with rings. In the bad future, this room has an Eggman statue instead. If you destroy it, you'll be showered with spikeballs instead!

Playing the Steam/XBLA/PSN version will give you the Statue Savior achievement for finding this room.
