Wacky Workbench is widely considered the most annoying level in the game, thanks to the entire bottom being made of bouncy floors that bounce you straight up into the more maze-like top routes. This also makes time traveling much harder, and there's only a few areas viable for time traveling in. The gimmicks on their own are fun, and Sonic Mania reused a lot of them in better ways, it's just a tediously structured level.
Zone 1 is also one of the hardest in the game to find the Robot Transporter in. Right near the Metal Sonic Projector is what appears to be a crusher, but it's actually a device that moves you down a zoom tube, right onto the transporter. How are you supposed to find that on your own?
I didn't show it here, but there's also an Easter Egg area. In the past, a hidden room made of stone bricks houses an angel statue that gives you a shower of rings. In the bad future, a golden Eggman statue is here instead, and destroying it showers you with spike balls instead. It's been speculated to be another R2 leftover. You can actually get an achievement for finding the angel statue in the 2011 version.
