Sonic Chaos (Game Gear Ver.): Part 1: Turquoise Hill Zone (Sonic)
After Aspect made their own 8-Bit versions of Sonic 1 & 2, they then decided to branch off from just converting Genesis games and started to make their own original platformers, starting with this game, which is called "Sonic & Tails" in Japan.
----------
So here's the story.
Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik has decided to revisit South Island and steal its red Chaos Emerald. This caused the remaining five Emeralds to scatter into different dimensions, once again throwing South Island off-beat and plunging it into CHAOS!
Sonic the Hedgehog and his little buddy Miles "Tails" Prower team up to travel through new domains of South Island, recover all of its Chaos Emeralds, and stop Eggman once again!
Their adventure starts in Turquoise Hill Zone. A local relative of Green Hill Zone!
----------
Tails still can't follow Sonic in this game like in the Genesis Sonic 2, but the game does let you play as either one of them with their own perks.
This game was made and released in 1993, and it shows.
Sonic can finally Spin Dash in an 8-Bit game! Also, he has an alternate technique called the Strike Dash. You use it just like you use Sonic's Super Peel-Out in Sonic CD. If you are close to an enemy when you unleash this, you might phase through them unharmed, not even something the Peel-Out can do.
Sonic can also gain new powerups, such as the Rocket Shoes and the Pogo Springs.
In a way, Sonic's playthrough is a bit harder, as he starts out with 3 Lives and 0 Continues, compared to Tails starting with 5 Lives and 3 Continues.
----------
Sonic is also the only one of the two that can actually collect the Chaos Emeralds in this game. To do so, you will automatically be warped to the Special Stage as soon as you get 100 Rings. Each of these Special Stages have different challenges to put Sonic through. Whether or not you get the Chaos Emerald, finishing the Special Stage also counts as beating the Act you got the Special Stage from.
So, for example, I got into the first Special Stage in Turquoise Hill Act 1. Once that Special Stage is done, I then move onto Turquoise Hill Act 2.
The first Special Stage is a long Rocket Shoes flight to the Blue Chaos Emeralds. It takes a while for you to change your direction while flying, so you don't want to do that too much, here. However, the Rings you collect here will give you extra 1-UPs if you can get 100 of them, and the big ones each count as getting 10 smaller ones.
The second Special Stage is a tall climb. You will need to strategically use you jumps and Pogo Springs to figure out what platforms you need to land on in order to climb you way up to the Orange Chaos Emerald.
----------
Throughout Turquoise Hill, there were spring-heaving Motobugs called Bane Motoras, or Boing-O-Bots. Act 3's boss is a bigger version of these, simply called a Lady Bug
It's another "easy as hell" boss. You don't have to jump on it, because that spring protects it. Just roll it down. Remember, you can Spin Dash in this game, now.
Also, the Act 3 of this game's Zone are less merciless in general, because you can grab some Rings now before you reach this Act's boss.
