Sweet Mountain
Act 3

I just decided to put this up--I'm NOT taking requests for this game, at least not yet. Not until Sonic Generations passes by. This video is simply a demonstration of the stage design in Sonic Colors.

You see, when i was going through my playthrough of Sonic Colors, I only ever took one path per stage, due to my having only played each stage once to get to the end. Well, a lot of stages have at least one alternate path, or at least more stuff to do to earn more points. Sweet Mountain Act 3, I feel, is the best example of that, as it shows a number of different things.

First off is the Pink Spikes. You may remember that you first get the Pink Spikes in Planet Wisp, which is after you complete Sweet Mountain. That means that if you play through this stage after obtaining the Pink Spikes, you'll be able to use it in this stage. The first Spikes Wisp doesn't really do much except make the next area easier, but the second one, which you'll see me activate at 1:46, takes Sonic onto an alternate path, one that's impossible to reach the first time playing through this stage, which is the second thing to note.

The third thing about this is that this path takes longer to fnish. Much longer. So if you're going for time, the normal path down below, without the Spikes, is the way to go. However, if you're going for score, which was what I was after here, you'll need to take the upper path. The reason why, of course, is the Color Bonus. You'll see my score go up by over 300,000 points here due to the long series of Pink Spikes here, all of which are required to get through this path. (There is a bottomless pit down below until the rail.) The Time Bonus in Sonic Colors actually decreases rather slowly, so much that you're better off taking your time and doing things to increase your score rather than scrambling for the end, such as this. (This path is mandatory if you want the S-Rank.)

The fourth and last thing to note is the increased difficulty of this path compared to the lower default one. The platform you go on follows a complex path, constantly daring you to take extra risks to increase your score higher. (Indeed, two of the Red Rings are up here, which not only award 30,000 points each but are required to unlock Super Sonic.) You need to get every Wisp that you find and keep up with the platform, which is easier said than done, or else Sonic falls to his doom.

Well, that's enough of that. I'll be moving on to Sonic Generations next month. (Incidentally, the two kinds of Wisps found here--Orange Rocket and Pink Spikes--are the two you'll find in Planet Wisp in Sonic Generations.)
