Long story short, never try to use the hevc video container format in the custom output (FFmpeg) output area for recording in OBS. Because the result is a silent .hevc (not .mp4) video that doesn't carry audio. Not that knowing beforehand would've helped here, as it seems that no audio format is compatible with this particular file. I'm surprised that this compression standard acting as a video codec was even uploadable to YouTube, as nothing else on my computer could play it.

On the bright side, at least the footage looks good, in no short part due to my repaired desktop. No less featuring a replaced, GPU, CPU, new RAM, and no riser cable. Riser cable, you ask? Put simply, a riser cable is something of an extension cable for GPUs. I was using it to make some room for the old GPU, as it would take up the other PCIe slots on my motherboard. This new GPU is the same exact Nividia RTX 3080, but instead of the shorter and wider Dell model, this slimmer yet longer model is by Asus. I'm not sure what to expect in the differences from the manufacturers, but one apparent difference that I noticed right away when I got back my desktop in early April was that one of the PCIe slots was available. Just barley enough room, but a smooth fit nonetheless. Initially I used it for the Blackmagic Quad HDMI recorder here, which still worked great as you can see, but one thought still hovered over my head about storage and computer resources.

At the moment, I'm a little nervous to record on the desktop at a resolution of anything higher than 1080p. Which is why I am thinking on getting an external recorder such as this to do the heavy lifting: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/hyperdeckextreme. Though of course, it comes with a high price tag, but it does have the proper H.265/HEVC recording. Despite it being reserved for the higher resolutions. In any case, I want a device that can handle resolutions from any device I own, including my desktop for 4K gaming. I don't mind so much playing games on my desktop so much now as writing large files to an SSD. Granted, even at my pace it would take years, but I want my computer to last for as long as possible. For those curious, that empty slot is now filled up with the Wi-Fi 6/bluetooth PCIe card, and the Quad HDMI recorder is safe in a familiar metal box for the meantime.

In other news, I have also recently gotten a Full-time job as a DSP driver for Amazon. This is so that I am making some actual livable income while I pursue my true passion for a video editor/producer role. To say the least, it is not easy. I still have my thing at Tract Learning, Inc (tract.app) for the meantime due to it not being an hourly thing, but eventually I'm going to try and revisit some old projects that aren't for Tract. At least, once I'm done using the recorded video scripts for them that I've made while I was waiting for my desktop repair.

So yeah, a bunch of things happening, but don't think that I've forgotten about the channel. Just that I have a bunch of work to do first, in more ways than one. :)

Oh, and as for the original file size, it is the following: 82.4 GB

Enjoy! :)
