Welcome to Sonic Mania.

This game was released in 2017 as the 26th aniversary game (delayed from 25th) and was made by the people behind the mobile ports of Sonic the Hedgehog Sonic 2 and Sonic CD.

Sonic Mania is a 2D Sonic game which means to bring Classic Sonic back to the game play he had on the Genesis/MegaDrive to make the ultimate classic Sonic experience.

In this video Sonic and Tails fly back to Angel Island after having returned the Master Emerald, to findout where the energy signal that they picked up came from.
Once they arrived on the island they run into 5 of Eggman's elite troops: the Hard-Boiled Heavies as they unearth the source to the energy waves the Phantom Ruby, this ruby has the power to throw our heroes into illusions based on their previous adventures and in this case it throws us into the Green Hill Zone where they have to run through to find out what Eggman is up to.
After Sonic and Tails beat the DeathEgg Robot (yes Eggman means buisness alright) they get flung into the Chemical Plant by the Phantom Ruby.

Sonic Mania has 3 playable characters(as of June 25th 2018)
Sonic the Hedgehog who can use the classic Spindash and a mid-air version called the Drop-Dash Sonic is also able to use the flame thunder and bubble shields to do an air-dash, a double jump, and a bounce attack respectively.
Miles"Tails"Prower who can fly to have an easier time with the stages.
And Knuckles the Echidna who can glide and climb walls but also has slighly lower stats as the other characters.

I also used the Sonic 3&K Palette mod which changed the characters to have a more Sonic 3 inspired color sceme and this mod was made by: Jon Mapleweed here is a link to where you can download this and his other classic inspired pallets : https://gamebanana.com/skins/159831

I also used the Sonic 3 Checkpoints mod which replace the Sonic 1 inspired checkpoints with Sonic 3 inspired ones which IMO just look better. This mod is made by: DrLazlo here is a link to where you can download this mod for yourself: https://gamebanana.com/skins/159464

The Mod loader which you can download here: also comes with some codes which you can use if you so desire I did and I turned on the "Disable Super Transformation Prompt to keep it a secret that you could transform whenever you want. and kept the "Super Forms Can Be Canceled mod (not that I ever transform to begin with but just so you know you can turn of Super Sonic the same way you activated him with this code).
