As seen in this back-to-back comparison of M2's Sega Ages and Sega's Sonic Origins, one version of Aquatic Ruin 2 is clearly more accurate to the original game and more fun to play--and no, it's not the remaster from "Sonic fan-cum-visionary" Christian Whitehead. In the latter version, Sonic's rolling/jumping physics when hitting a wall are off (rendering the underwater section more sluggish to traverse); the whisp enemies near the end spawn too aggressively (turning a questionable, tricky hazard into a flat-out unavoidable one, while forcing players into what should be a secret 1UP room); and the added distance of widescreen all but "ruins" the boss.
