Board up! Sonic Riders is gonna hita you with Sonic Speed!
While out looking for the Chaos Emeralds, Team Sonic take notice of a robbery committed by a suspicious trio. Upon realizing the Emerald is with this unknown group, Sonic speeds after them. Upon the leader speeding past the Blue Blur, Sonic makes use of one of their boards after Knuckles deals a blow to one of thiefs colleagues. While Sonic gets the hang of it, the thief manages to strike down the hedgehog and speeds off. Meanwhile, Eggman announces the start of the racing competition known as the EX World Grand Prix, with the Chaos Emeralds being the entry fee and the grand prize. Noticing that the thieves will be competing in the competition, Team Sonic (as well as Amy) decides to take part in the race.
