The plot of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Act 1 begins with Dr. Eggman once again plotting to take over the world. This time, he has created a powerful machine known as the Death Egg and has sent it off to space. Sonic sets off on a mission to stop Dr. Eggman and his plans for world domination.

Sonic and Tails travel to the West Side Island in search of the Death Egg and eventually come across a mysterious castle. After exploring the castle, they discover that it is a replica of Dr. Eggman's own castle, Eggmanland. Sonic and Tails also find out that Dr. Eggman is using the Death Egg to power a giant laser cannon and launch it at the West Side Island. Sonic and Tails must race against time to prevent the Death Egg from launching its deadly weapon.

Sonic and Tails battle against Dr. Eggman's robots and eventually come across the Death Egg. Sonic and Tails must use their wits and skills to reach the Death Egg before Dr. Eggman can launch it. After reaching the Death Egg, Sonic and Tails must battle against Dr. Eggman's powerful robots in order to disable the laser cannon and save the West Side Island. After a long and difficult battle, Sonic and Tails succeed in disabling the laser cannon and saving the West Side Island.
