Sonic Unleashed (360) playthrough – Part 3: Blue Chaos Emerald restored
Part 3 of my first playthrough series of Sonic Unleashed on Xbox 360. This video contains where Part 2 ended up to slightly after the blue chaos emerald becomes revitalized. No audio commentary. Full and uncut to give a feeling of a live experience. The videos in this series are like a longplay, but not in one single video. The series is done in separate parts because a single video would be too long/large for me, and YouTube limits the features of videos after a certain length.
Thanks to my friend Groudon199 for letting me borrow his Xbox 360 and some games; because of that, I was able to play the HD version of Sonic Unleashed. While this is my first time playing this version of Sonic Unleashed, I have played and beaten Sonic Unleashed on the Nintendo Wii before. My focus here was to play through the entire game and beat it while exploring as much of the game as possible. I take my time and try to collect all of the game’s collectibles, see how the game functions, complete all stages/missions, get S Ranks, etc. I’ve written the timestamps for important parts of the video down (start of stages/missions/etc.) which you can use as a viewing guide, although you will miss a lot of interesting content by solely using the timestamps to navigate through the video. The timestamps start at the final successful completion attempt of each objective in question.
I played a lot of levels that weren’t really required for the main storyline in this part. I also played completed levels multiple times to obtain missing collectible items and get better high scores/times/ranks. I wanted to try different challenges and thus practice with the game so that I could get significantly better at it. I learned a lot from those levels, and I hope that this experience helps me beat the game more easily. It seems like each new level I’ve played so far introduces you to a new game mechanic, so I wonder how long that will continue to be the case.
My thoughts about Sonic Unleashed through Part 3: the first thing that I found a little dumb in this part was the Air Boost Shoes power-up item. I don’t know why this item exists, as from the start of the game, I was under the impression that boosting could be done on ground or in air. I had been trying to use the boost move in the air many times throughout part 1 and part 2 while not fully realizing that it wasn’t available, but I definitely wondered why I wasn’t getting any speed when trying to boost that way. In the Sonic games that came afterward, I think the boost move could be done on the ground or in the air by default, which is why I found this design choice strange and unintuitive. I believe that Sonic Rush lets you boost in the air by default too, and that was the first game with the boost feature. Apart from that, my complaints that I spoke about in part 2’s video description continued to be troublesome. I also noticed that drifting around tight ground is not that easy, but I don’t know if that move’s implementation is to blame or if I’m not good at using it.
