There's a glitch in Sonic Unleashed called a break jump glitch. This glitch causes you to move so fast that the level can't load fast enough and puts Sonic into a empty space. At this point there's nothing you can do but to quit the game and hope it doesn't happen again. This glitch isn't common to run into. I had this glitch happen to me twice in the span of a week.
