“Sony Patent Adds Weight to PS5 Redesign Rumours. Sony Interactive Entertainment has filed a new patent for a detachable optical disk drive, which, while not confirmed by any means, adds extra credence to those PS5 redesign rumours floating around late last year.

The patent, known by its catchy technical moniker, US-20230118186-A1_I, is described as "an optical disc drive that can be mounted in electronic equipment such as a game machine, personal computer, or audio-visual (AV) equipment."

“Final Fantasy XVI PlayStation 5 Bundle Announced; Includes Special Dualsense and Plate Designs in JP and Asia. A new PlayStation 5 bundle for interested players was announced by Sony earlier today. This new bundle also comes in the form of a special edition controller and plates, and the game the whole bundle is themed after, Final Fantasy XVI. The bundle will be available for pre-order in May, and some of its special features will be available only for a limited time.

“UK Blocks Microsoft Activision Deal Over Game Pass. The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced its decision to block Microsoft’s $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard on Wednesday citing concerns it would hurt competition in the growing cloud gaming market where Microsoft dominates thanks to Game Pass. It’s a shocking turn of events for what seemed like a mega merger that was otherwise cruising toward regulatory approval.

“We have concluded that the merger would result in the most powerful operator in the fast-developing market for cloud gaming, with a current market share of 60-70%, acquiring a portfolio of world-leading games with the incentive to withhold those games from competitors and substantially weaken competition in this important growing market,” the CMA wrote in its final report. Both Microsoft and Activision Blizzard said they will appeal the decision.”

PS Plus members across all three tiers will be able to claim this trio of games in May 2023: Grid Legends, Chivalry 2, and Descenders. All three games will be free for PS Plus subscribers starting May 2.”

“Sony is making it easier to buy a PSVR 2. The PlayStation VR 2 headset is making its way to more retailers, following its two-month-long exclusive stint on Sony’s direct to consumer storefront. Sony announced the news on Twitter, but it hasn’t yet shared which retailers will begin to sell the VR headset, nor has it shared an official date. However, it’s possible that it might fall on May 12,
