You get Sony's new Creator Mode smarts to output cinematic visuals, complete with a stretched 21:9 aspect ratio for enjoying movies the way they're meant to be seen.
The Xperia 1 also packs a fresh triple-lens camera which can capture wide-angle and telephoto pics and videos. Sony's Cinema Pro app adds full manual control and professional filters for your home movies too.
As for performance, the new flagship wins this versus battle. The XZ3 still boasts fantastic speed, but the new Snapdragon 855 chipset means the most premium experience - plus you get a new gaming mode.
