Space Engineers: The Beta of the Beta: Round 2
43The SE community sighs in relief as development continues in a completely-optional, off-to-the-side branch. While I wish Keen were also making the MP testing public in Steam news, this is better than the way things were before!
Pros:
* There were more people on this week during my testing period.
* The reconnect feature works rather well.
* It didn't take nearly as long to connect to the MP server as it did last week.
* Was able to make a few landings with a flying ground vehicle without any real fuss.
Cons:
* Marek's Mess is back. Please Marek, we don't want massive bloom and glove smudges all over the visor. A halfway setting like last week's would be much appreciated.
* Worlds with lots of small grids seem to suffer very low FPS. Bad news for those of you wanting to do lots of fighter-on-fighter combat?
* The reconnect feature did not preserve things like toolbar settings even though I was connected back to the same server.
* Some situations still caused glitchy slowdown in the game, briefly.
* Game crash for no reason I can figure on my client.
* Energy Shields decidedly broken. The HUD display works, the blocks take charge, but no damage is prevented.
* Build & Repair also decidedly broken. All options in HUD below "Help Others" no longer appear and the blocks themselves seem to be non-functional.
If last week was a solid B+, this rated about a B- or possibly C+ (no pun intended). This week's test on my side intentionally involved a non-MP world, and the FPS was still low there. And again, all of this is under block count and type limits, and we have no idea what kind of server was running the DS software, but it sure felt like it was suddenly capable of doing more than last week... and at the same time, these odd little glitches felt like that wasn't the case as well.
