Originally created by Taito in 1979, this was released in the US as SPACE INVADERS DELUXE in 1980 under the Midway license. There was also a weird ripoff by Midway in 1980 for the cocktail cabinet only titled SPACE INVADERS II. At any rate, this is an interesting sequel with some added touches to the gameplay of the first game-- here, you also have invaders that can SPLIT into two smaller ones (and they shrink a bit and revert, back and forth, so they are harder to hit); there are flashing UFOs that are worth a whopping 500 points (300 in the US version), and UFOs can also drop new invaders for you to deal with! The flashing UFO, as lucrative as it is, is also harder to hit. Also notice that sometimes different invaders will be on the same row! One last difference from the first game-- there is a hidden bonus called the "rainbow bonus". To uncover this shoot an invader from one of the bottom 2 rows LAST. It's possible to do this because the invaders do not all move in exact unison, so you can manage to destroy invaders from the upper rows first! If you manage to topple the high score of 5,000 points (you REALLY need to mow down some flashing UFOs to have a shot at this) you can put in up to TEN initials for your name! The US version is almost exactly the same, but with different sound effects and scoring system. Fairly good sequel!
