I know it's supposed to be Screenshot Saturday, but how about I show you a short clip while I talk about the tech?

Liquid textures are kind of interesting in the engine, in that typically they're just an animation and maybe a scrolling effect for a "running" appearance. For a lot of mapsets and gameplay mods aiming to keep things simple, this works wonderfully. It's just liquid, you know, what more does it need?
Here, though, I kind of wanted to see what would happen if I went ahead and did all sorts of extra stuff to it.

This entire section isn't actually a liquid, it's two 3D floors stacked on top of each other, with the ceilings lowered down very slightly so they render through each other. Both of them have Warp applied to their texture in Animdefs, but scroll in different directions and are scaled differently. One is translucent, the other is additive translucent. Their insides are rendered with an extremely high brightness but a very dark fade and an orange light, so that they're bright but have a murky inside. Then, I throw gldefs across the entire array at different areas, pulsing and flickering at random intervals to shine through the translucent/additive translucent tops of the lava for even more fiery colors. Add three actors constantly roaming across the top: One spawning bubbles, the other throwing up sparks, and one playing an ambient sound.

Whew. That's a whole lot of stuff for one single area in a map. But damn it looks pretty. And I'm sure there's still more I can do.
