Speedrun ⏱️ 36.90 any% on Astro Lab Stage 8 🧪 Mercury Meltdown Remix (PS2)
2Mercury Meltdown Remix is a game that nobody speedruns, so here I am putting times on the board to hopefully inspire other people to give it a try. The run time is the time remaining on the in-game clock, so a higher number is better (unlike most speedruns).
In an any% run, all you have to do is make it to the goal.
If you can't tell, most of this level (all of the yellow) is almost vertical. You have to let the conveyor belts push you up the platform because there's no other way up there. The level is divided into three sections. First, you ride a conveyor belt up to a green dye station, which you need to pass through the gate to the second section. There, you go up again so you can become blue, which you need so you can pass through the gate to the third section. There, you have to jump a gap between conveyor belts to become teal and reach the goal. At least that's how it's supposed to be done.
I start by rushing off of the starting platform just enough so I collide with the opposite wall and break of the smallest piece possible. That piece bypasses the first two sections and heads straight for the last conveyor belt and to the goal.
I was actually making attempts at the 100% run, but the start was perfect for any%, so I changed my plan on the fly and ended up with my best time.
