Review:
This is my first time trying to run this game. After nearly 2 years and 4 months, I've finally done a speedrun on all 5 Epic War flash games.
I spent at least a few weeks preparing each chapter of this run.
The first 5 chapters were quite heavily dependent on the RNG. For that reason, I decided to go for the safest strategy and lost about 30 seconds. However, even playing this way, I managed to lose several times on these chapters.
By far the level that frustrated me the most in my testing was Chapter 10. Orc Totems are the only reason I decided to go with Dryads at all Orc levels after this one. Their attacks seem to randomly target anyone within range, meaning they can wipe out your entire army attacking the castle in seconds if you're unlucky.
The hardest levels were chapters 13 and 14. The presence of Arch Angel and the Black Dragon meant you only had little time to finish destroying the castle before they could attack. Chapter 13 is harder because Arch Angel attacks a bit faster and you can get attacked pretty early by a Paladin or Crossbow Cavalier if you're lucky which I wasn't here.
Overlord Guah-Hajj in Chapter 16 is a pretty trivial boss. The only thing to note here is that if you're slow enough to destroy the castle, an Arch Angel can appear and wipe out your entire army, especially if you don't have a Titan again.
The End in Chapter 17 is the most dangerous of the 3 bosses since it's pretty much a time bomb. The key here is to balance the titans and ranged units. If you try to send too many units, you can potentially lose your run here.
The Lord of Hell should have been the easiest boss but I managed to waste quite a bit of time here, probably because I haven't tested this chapter once. I spent nearly as much time trying to kill my dryads than the boss.
Overall it was a pretty good run with no major loss of time. I'm really happy with the results of my preparation and didn't expect that the game could be completed this quickly. I managed to gain more than 1h30 compared to the last world record.
With this run over, I have now been able to retake 2 out of 5 world records. The next ones will probably be much more difficult to retake.
