Speedrunning Mass Effect Andromeda (April Fools Video)
4Today I will be attempting the first speedrun of Mass Effect Andromeda. Below you will find my text commentary explaining everything that happens in the run.
Text Commentary:
Intro:
Hello and welcome to my commentary for the Mass Effect Andromeda speeedrun, in this run you'll see many tricks and glitches that were found by me that dramatically speed up the run. My first attempt clocked in at around 52 hours but due to a trick that was discovered early this week the time has been dramatically cut. Now for those that were wondering the game is being run on PC at max settings as you need the silky smooth sexiness of 60fps to accomplish some of the glitches found in the run. Now I know what you're probably thinking "Gee John, this would be a fun video to watch but you had to go and cheat by using glitches" and my answer to you would be ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. With all of this out of the way I say we start the run off.
Beginning:
So right from the beginning you'll see that I skipped the character creation as it wastes valuable seconds choosing between blue hair or green hair. One of the first glitches of the run that you'll see is a trick I like to call "Pause cancel" now if you pause the game on the exact frame that a character is speaking it will cancel out the entire text box and skip the sentence which saves a total of 40 minutes throughout the run (NOTE: I haven't done the math yet but I'm sure it saves this much time.) Now the base running speed of the game can be pretty slow so one of the things that I found is that if press Control-Alt-delete it will actually make you run at a faster pace, since you're cancelling out the run animation which gives you a short burst of speed in return that probably saves a few hours of time. (Reminder I haven't done the math yet so I may be a little off) Now the beginning of this run wasn't that good since I screwed up a few times on some of the tricks but I make up for it later.
The Trick to end all tricks:
So where to begin, well this was a glitch that I discovered early this week which dramatically changed this run and actually made it a viable category. Now this section will be a bit hard to explain but I'll try to explain it for all the normies out there. In game development there is a thing called programming and from that pretty much makes the entire game work, now when it comes to the programming of this game somebody needs to get fired over this blunder. Now before you attempt this trick I highly recommend you have a backup save as if you mess up the game will crash and will delete all the saves. When you get your first weapon in the game head to the weapon menu and equip and unequip your weapon over and over, now for this one I actually did the math and if you do this exactly 53,594 times in a row then a glitch will occur that will warp you to the games credits finishing the run. Now the reason this works is very simple, by doing this over and over you're messing with the games code and from this messes with the values. For example, the base weapon in the code is around 142 so as you keep doing this it keeps going up in the values and by 53,594 it just so happens to be the same value as the credits so if you hit that exact number and leave you'll be instantly warped to the credits. AND PEOPLE THOUGHT THE ANIMATION WAS THE WORST PART OF ANDROMEDA.
Conclusion:
Overall this was a pretty good run, there are many things I can fix in the future but for now this will do. There are many people in the community I could thank that provided me with the info and even helped discover some of the tricks used but to be honest, i'm not going to. Yeah, you don't see them doing runs now do you? So why should I give them time under the sun when the only sun they've probably seen is when they go to their local anime conventions, (Note: I don't know if they do go to anime conventions but it helps my case to make that terribly offensive remark towards them, to be honest they might not even watch anime so this might not work but I think I'll still leave it in.)
