So I actually copped Horizon Zero Dawn remastered thinking I would finally finish the dlc. That game is gorgeous but after so long and granted I’m in the endgame so a tututorial would fix this I found the control so unintuitive. Then I jumped on Spider-Man new game plus and ended up running the the campaign quite quickly. A year and some change on from Spider-Man 2 I saw it slightly differently but still had a lot of fun with it (spoilers ahead).

The release of the PlayStation 5 Pro also motivated me to jump in Spider-Man 2. The PlayStation 5 Pro has confused because not only is it expensive it has fixed the issue of either playing on performance or fidelity mode as to my understanding it just introduced performance pro and fidelity pro modes for most games. The technology of upscaling to 4k with technology similar to DLSS is good but doesn’t justify it. Sony also released the 30th anniversary PlayStation which looks super sick.

Anyway this time around I played on fidelity mode and normal difficulty. The game is gorgeous and the story missions have so many highlights. The Black Cat and Dr Strange mission is so good. Sidebar what’s up with Black Cat cause she kinda 👀 . Back to the missions I enjoyed chasing Lizard through New York, any mission when it’s raining, the mission where Peter goes berserk. The missions when you use the spider-bot reminds me of the old Stuart Little PlayStation games. The horror mission when Peter is chasing Mary Jane I like and of course the Venom mission. The Venom combat finishers are so BRUTAL!

Admittedly, a year on I feel the game jumps the shark after the Venom mission the symbiote arc is meh and then the game just ends. The symbiote arc just feels like gauntlets of hordes which I think the game already suffers from in earlier missions though not as egregiously.

A year on no DLC feels even more peculiar and the cancelled multiplayer game really did damage because that would have changed perception a lot. I would have assumed they were aiming for game of the year with this release and while i don’t play those types of games I feel they could have beat Baldurs Gate 3 if they innovated more. The open world feels very Ubisoft and perhaps the could’ve followed Grand Theft Auto’s (GTA) template more. The multiplayer would have helped. Also I wish the radio would still come on randomly when you finish the game or the game would have radio stations. I like you can change the weather when you finish the game but again odd I can’t make it rain and it’s tied to specific missions. The MJ missions are still a let down a year on however I really enjoyed the last mission when she got the gun.

Moving on to what I did like, the games is insanely intuitive. I’ve seen people who don’t really play video games comfortable pick up the controls after about 10 mins and think Insomniac deserves credit for that. I had fun replaying certain sections like the intro venom yank scene.

Peter is too strong by the end of the game so I wonder how they’ll nerf him in Spider-Man 3. I’d like to see a train mission similar to when Tobey McGuire stopped it at the need of Spider-Man 2. That will probably feel good on the dual sense controller if done correctly. Also show more love to Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man I do like playing in his outfit sometimes.

Lastly, Kendrick Lamar dropped his new albuM GNX my favourite song so far is man at the garden.

He’s not like the chill guy meme …
