Splatoon 2 Global Testfire Gameplay and First Impressions - Nintendo Switch - After Work Respawn
Splatoon 2 hosted a global testfire that allowed Nintendo Switch owners a few opportunities to play the game and experience the squid/kid gameplay. We take a look back at the Splatoon 2 test fire and show off some favorite epic moments and first impressions of the game. Christian is playing Splatoon for the first time while Andrew had experience with the original Wii U game.
We played Splatoon 2 test fire on Nintendo Switch and Christian shares his first experiences with the game, which is less of a shooter and more of an objective based game where you need to paint everything you can and Andrew makes some comparisons to the first game available on Wii U.
Christian started with the motion control scheme, which allows you to use the gyroscope of the Switch joy-con to look around. Attempting to play with a joy con in each hand was a bit disorienting. But both of us ended up using the traditional stick controls.
The Splatoon 2 global testfire had 4 guns available - Splattershot (single pistol), Splat Roller, Splat Charger and Splat Dualies
-Splattershot is a good weapon for pros and amateurs, with good damage and paint spread. It also includes a more standard paint grenade.
-Splat Roller is the optimum weapon for scoring points by painting the ground. Most player kills with the roller require you to be closer to them. The Splat Roller special creates a dome of paint that deals damage and protects your teammates.
-Splat Charger is akin to the sniper class of Splatoon 2. It is slower to shoot but can go slightly further distances and deals higher damage. It was definitely the worst weapon in terms of painting the ground.
-Splat Dualies is a two pistol setup and a special that gives you a jetpack to fly in the air and shoot rocket like paint. It has a grenade like a curling puck that you can run around behind or use to paint surfaces.
The Splatoon 2 test fire had 2 maps available - Musselforge Fitness (a gym-like indoor arena) and The Reef (an outdoor area). Both maps were simpler and smaller but good size for the games quicker matches.
We're excited for the 2017 release of Splatoon 2 on Nintendo Switch! Check back for more videos in future test fires and official release!
