Splatoon 2 - Team Unicorn (more Sploosh-o-matic 7) & Results - Jun 15 19 B
It's probably pretty obvious why I went with Team Unicorn, but let me tell you something: the reason a unicorn's horn looks exactly like a narwhal's horn, from the long tapered shape to the spiral ridge around it, is because they're one and the same. In the Middle Ages and well into the Renaissance, people believed unicorns were real, just very hard to find. They were said to be reclusive creatures, uncatchable except by a virgin woman (which is why unicorns are associated with girls). The result was that aristocrats and nobility, many of whom liked to keep exotic objects around their homes to show off to guests, really wanted to get ahold of a unicorn's horn.
Enter in whalers at the time who hunted in the Arctic Ocean. Narwhals are present in these waters, which they hunted on occasion. They didn't have a use for the horns, so ordinarily, they'd throw them away. At least one of them, however, had the brilliant idea to take it back and pass it off as a unicorn horn. Turns out these aristocrats and nobles were willing to pay huge prices for those horns, with rival rich people bidding ever higher prices to be the one to have that unicorn horn. Though a narwhal horn would've been an exotic item anyway, they never realized they fell for one of the biggest cons of its time.
Match #5
Kelp Dome
Splatfest Turf War
Sploosh-o-matic 7
Color Scheme: Pampers
Song: "Ebb & Flow" by Off the Hook
Titles: The Squid Gang (Bad Guys)
Wow, some of these guys can really dodge and sidestep! How do they do that? (Or is it lag?) In any case, though I was off to a bad start, I did pull myself together and brought our team out of Danger! by taking out every opponent who got in my way.
Match #6
New Albacore Hotel
Splatfest Turf War
Sploosh-o-matic 7
Color Scheme: Pampers
Song: "Acid Hues" by Off the Hook
Titles: The Lady Squad (Bad Guys)
Apparently, I was doing so well that our team was then paired up against one with a 10-win streak. Man, that's harsh. I was pretty much shut down here, though mostly through the actions of Ne0n_juice, who went up to our side and was very good at taking on any comers, which was mostly just me because I go after invaders like him. That being said, small, narrow spaces are not the Sploosh-o-matic's thing, and most of New Albacore Hotel is just that.
Match #7
Walleye Warehouse
Splatfest Turf War
Sploosh-o-matic 7
Color Scheme: Pampers
Song: "Acid Hues" by Off the Hook
Titles: The Octo Crew (Good Guys), The Octo Quartet (Bad Guys)
Well then! Here is an all-Octoling match. I thought I did decently, even though, like the Kelp Dome match, I was having a rough start, only to see some really high splat totals coming from the others! That being said, splatting is not the only thing that matters. Inking is more important, so at least I got the top honors in that. I have to wonder, though, what the other two were doing. I guess the Explosher is a weapon that can spawn-camp in a stage like this though. That Kami must've REALLY felt left out...
Match #8
Shifty Station - Furler in the Ashes
Splatfest Turf War
Sploosh-o-matic 7
Color Scheme: Pampers
Song: "Ebb & Flow" by Off the Hook
Titles: (none)
If you read the previous description, or this one even, you might have noticed I added something to the name of the Shifty Station. The previous day, all of the Shifty Stations' names had been revealed! This one features Inkfurlers, so its name is Furler in the Ashes. All of them are named after novels for children, teenagers, or young adults (in English, at least), and this one is based on An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. Inkfurlers are curled-up platforms found in Octo Canyon and Octo Expansion stages, which unfurl when you attack them enough. These are special ones that unfurl in the color of the team of whomever lands the last hit to unfurl it, though they roll back after enough time has passed. There's one very long one in front of the spawn and a bunch of others scattered about, including four in the middle required to get to the other side. There are also two Inkfurlers turned 90 degrees, such that when unfurled, they form walls instead of floors. You'll be splatted if you stand in its way while it unfurls. On top of that, at the 90-second mark, the water recedes, revealing more inkable ground like with Mahi-Mahi Resort. (Yes, the skyscrapers in the background are submerged. I don't think you're supposed to question it.) In this match, an opponent attempted to get away from me by retreating to a platform I can't reach easily with the Ultra Stamp, so I tossed the thing. Few people actually throw it, enough that it catches people off guard.
After this, we have the results! You're not surprised how this one turned out at all, did you?
